poop question

somegirl Aug 09, 2003 09:37 PM

my ball has been with me for three months now, feeding on an adult mouse every 4 to 7 days (just started him on frozen the last feeding, theyve always been prekilled). i fed him wednesday; today he pooped and it seems a little different than usual. the urate is large, the feces is small. tehres also a white part with black specks. im using paper towel for substrate, and its wet and light brown around the feces. i can take a pic if you guys really wanna see it i just treated another cage for mites with nix, and sprayed the outside of his (its a small infestation, doesnt appear to have gotten in his cage, and im sick. i know i should really have treated all my snakes just in case). the fumes were pretty strong around here for awhile, if that might have anything to do with it.
not sure if its anything to be concerned about, so i figured id check with the experts thanks!

Yes, Please post a pic. If you asked me, there isn't enough poop pictures. I mean we all see eating pic, but we rarely get to see the other end.

All things ball python are beautiful! I just cleaned out a very well formed poop from Princess's cage and it was a very well formed poop that I as a father am very proud of. The poop is a combination of rat and mice hair!

I didn't take a pic, though.

I should have, but didn't. It is already in the trash can and I dont' feel like digging it up just for a photo. all I can say is: Maybe next time.

But wouldn't mind seeing yours. From what you describe, it almost sounds like it looks like colubrid poop. Now colubrids do NOT have good looking poop! Another reason not to own colubrids, in my opinion. I think BPs are better than colubrids.

cheers.

...Nix is a pyrethrin-based agent which are generally quite safe compared with cholinesterase inhibitor-based insecticides, such as dichlorvos. This is not to say that Nix won't alter the appearance of a stool, but in this case I don't think it represents overt toxicity. Keep close watch for more mites and retreat at the sight of the FIRST live might you see!
