mootish Jan 15, 2007 10:07 AM

Hello ,
I'm Christina and I'm new to this fourm ,
I just bought a nice looking Gecko yesterday we call him/her Scully .
anyway she's 3 inches and 3/4's we dont have a picture so we wold like to discribe her/him
we got it at petco as a normal leoard gecko ( but i belive it's not ) i think it's some sort of albino maybe temper ? she costed 24 dollar's ...
( i would have a picture but my camera like died )
( the pattern is like white and has like a white stripe pattern along with yellow pattern coming and shes got pink all over (white toes and like a white band write behind her neck and then her eye's are like a blueish tint kinda )

anyways thats some small info
we have all the stuff she/he needs in a ten gallon tank for now .
we have a under heating pad for it but the temp's are hitting only 80 degress and the humidity is like 60 ? anyone help us with this ? if so spread all your info to us it would be most helpful to try and figure out her color and this heating .

( picture to come )

you said you have everything she needs... can you elaborate?

what is the substrate?
how many hides does she have?
what are you using to measure the temperature, and humidity?

You may need to consider getting a ceramic heat emitter, or red-glass bulb, to up the heat, since 80 degrees is MUCH too cold. You want to aim for a hot side temperature of 88-92 degrees.

Your description sounds like that of an albino... I'll post pictures of a 'normal' hatchling, and one of an albino, and you can just point out which one resembles your little Scully.

"NORMAL" hatchling, at 2 weeks

"ALBINO" hatchling, at 2 weeks

we have a repti carpet as substrate for now

she has one rock hut and we use a tub a ware // with wet paper towels in it for her humidity hut ( its inclosed with a little door so he/she can get in it )

she also hads a food dish and water dish on opposite ends away from the UTH

she ate coated crickets last night but we offer weal worms in a a food dish all the time .

The whole 'white toes' thing worries me a bit. Sounds like a gecko who has gone one too many sheds without a humid hide.

i ment .. she/he is shedding them off ..

It looks like she's geared up for a shed anyways... they tend to get all dry and washed-out looking when they're just about to start.

It does look like she might have retained shed on her toes, so make sure to give her a thorough once-over after she's done shedding, and make sure all the shed is off her toes. You might need to 'soak' her to get all the shed off... I posted the method I use a few messages down from this one.

thanks for your help but my question still is what is she ?? normal just in shed ?

begunwithaletter Jan 15, 2007 03:11 PM

it's hard to say, with her being cloudy for a shed. Post pictures of her after she's shed, and we'll see. From what color I can see underneath that old skin, I'd say she's an albino, but you never know...

You should be measuring the ground temp above the heat pad. You need a thermometer with a probe to do this. Air tempature is not important belly heat is.
