Stubborn skin left on gecko eye

Mithivh Jan 15, 2007 11:48 AM

Hey everyone,

My gecko (Lily) just shed for her very first time since I’ve had her, and there is some skin left over her left eye that she can’t seem to get. It’s a verry small amount but its enough to keep her from seeing very well out of that eye (she can’t see some crickets on that side of her).

I tried taking her out and just very gently sliding a warm, damp cloth over the skin to help loosen it, but since she’s just adjusting she was afraid so I didn’t try very long. The skin is still flush against her so I can’t exactly get ahold of an edge and slowly/gently peel it off.

Any help is much appreciated! Thanks in advance,

-Mike

When I get a rescue in with retained sheds, I'll take a tupperware/rubbermaid sandwich box, lay down a nice, thick layer of paper towels, then get the paper towels REALLY soggy. You want the PT to be completely soaked, to the point where it can't absorb any more. I use water that's about 90 degrees (you'll want to check it with a thermometer or temp gun, you don't want to scorch your leo's feet with water that feels 'hot' to you)

Then put the leo inside this little soggy container for about 15 minutes.

I find it's easier to 'soak' them this way, then just plopping them into a container of water, which can be really stressful for your gecko, if they've never been soaked before. Plus, the paper towel provides a little bit of 'traction' for them, and it's something they can rub against to loosen the stuck skin.

work fine as well. I had to get some unwanted shed off earlier this week. Good luck.
