A kink in the tail or spine is usually just that and can range from a bump to a complete disfigurement where the spine actually gets deformed and curved/bent. From what I understand it is usually caused by too high temps during incubation in egg-laying species or some sort of trauma. In all honesty, I have never seen an ammie with any kind of kink. I have seen rats, corns, kings, burms and carpets with kinks. The good news is, if it is not too severe, the snake can generally live a normal, productive life.
