Question on preparing Spaghum moss

shihao Aug 09, 2003 10:07 PM

Hi,

What is the proper way to prepare spaghum moss is for my leopard geckos? I have two juvenile females and put an inch of the stuff and moistened quite well and put it in a container. The ladies don't like that humid hide but I just want to make sure I didn't miss something.

Thanks,

Tom S. T.

I use moist paper towels, but if you are going to use sphagnum moss, all you have to do is grab a chunk out of the bag it comes in. Run it under warm water. I would put it in some kind of strainer or something if you dont want the moss going down the drain and clogging it. Then just squeeze out the access water and place it in the humid hide. Simple as that. If you need to add a bit more water, then just mist it, and you're set.

Thanks for the responses Leo Lover.

I'm trying to give my juveniles more options. They are comfortable already with paper towels and a styrofoam tray. I noticed spaghum may be used as a laying substrate so I'd like to get them accustomed to it.

That moss smells like herbs though. I wonder if that would be a turn off for them.

Anyway thanks for the information.
