Whites Tree Frog - Sick

varn Jan 16, 2007 11:41 AM

I have a white's tree frog, had him for about 3 months now, and is all of a sudden lethargic, won't eat.

There are not visible signs of trauma, cuts, etc. No red leg.

It seems as if he can't move his rear legs very well.

My first frog, after having him for about 5 years ended up with similar symptons, and we had to put him out of his misery.

What is causing this?
Thanks.

i know i sound annoying when i ask these kinds of questions, but are his temps and such good. respitory infections can cause lethargy and often there are no other visible symptoms. it could also be impaction, what kind of substrate are you using? it could also be some kind of bacterial thingie. are there any other frogs in the tank that could have passed it onto this one. i suggest quarentining it either way in a smaller conainter and msit a lot and just pay a lot of attention to it. if the water dish was dirty w/ dead bugs and such, it could have gotton sick from that. good luck and keep me posted!

Said frog did not make it.

2nd frog in same location seems to be doing fine. Regarding the number 2 a frog does, how big are these usually? Will this be an indication that they're taking in too much substrate at one time?

Substrate is coconut stuff. Not sure about humidity, etc., as every time I go to buy one of those in the store, they're all different, so how accurate can they be?

Temps are in mid 70's.

Did just buy a UVB lamp rather than just regular window light.

whites get about 4 in and are pretty robust, if ith as any unusual bumps of lumps that could be impaction, it could also be a tumor that is blocking the digestive track. taking it to get x-rayed might help. i'de rise temps up to like 80 with a extra warm spot of 85-90, it might help, but i doubt it.
