swollen beard?

weebeasties Jan 16, 2007 04:18 PM

I remember reading something about juvenile dragons that have a swollen puffed out beard. This is in young immature dragons. Does anyone remember what the cause is and what to do about it?

The only thing I can think of is Vitamin A toxicity. I cut the info below from Beautifuldragons.com

"Caution should be used when giving multi-vitamin supplements because Beardies are very susceptible to vitamin A toxicity. Signs of Vitamin A overdose are: swelling of the throat, bloating of the body, and lethargy."

I use Rep Cal calcium w/D3 (no vitamin A) and Rep Cal Herptivite (uses beta caretine instead of Vitamin A) All reptiles do not have the same vitamin needs. But, most vitamins are marketed as good for all reptiles. The Rep Cal is the best for Beardies.(My opinion)
