Shipping?!

medyssa Jan 16, 2007 11:33 PM

I have someone interested in one of my babies born last year and would like it shipped to Michigan, I already let her know that I cant ship in cold weather, but as far as shipping a live animal, no one (fed-ex, ups, dhl, usps) seems to ship live animals, but I have recieved live animals from all but usps, can anyone tell me how i could go about shipping my snakeas legally as possible?

To do it legally with Fed-Ex you have to become a certified shipper. This involves sending one of your shipping containers tot hem so they can test it and make sure it meets specs. The whole process takes a month or so. In my opinion, it's worth it. They're cheaper than Delta and have a fantastic overnight, door to door service. No more going to the airport and waiting for the packages to be unloaded.

We want to get fedex certified, but aren't sure how to get about it. People I call seem to know nothing about being able to be certified to ship snakes, say you can't do it. Is there a particular part of Fedex I should call? And what exactly is the process? I heard they do an in-home check and all that. We currently don't have any babies, and since thats what we plan on shipping should we wait til our first girl gives birth so they can see exactly what we will be shipping, or can we start the process immediately?

Sorry.. that was more long-winded than I had planned.

Like Mike said.. just go through the certification process. It is a bit time consuming, but not hard.

You have plenty of time to go throught the certification process - It will be cold in MI for several months. ideal.

The shipping boxes from http://www.superiorenterprise.com/ will pass the certification process for fedex.

I was not aware of the "from business to business" condition. The following copied directly from the fed-ex site.

If approved by FedEx, we may accept non-venomous reptiles, amphibians, live/tropical fish and beneficial insects on an exception basis under the following conditions:

Shipments must be from a business to a business (from a breeder to a pet store, for example).
The shipper must have its packaging tested and pre-approved by FedEx Packaging Design and Development for the type of animal being shipped. Call 1.800.633.7019 for assistance. It is the responsibility of the shipper to adequately package shipments for all temperature extremes and handling conditions.
Contact your FedEx account executive for details and additional requirements.

I think I will call fed-ex as soon as this woman decides if she really wants Riley or not. I appreciate all the help, especially the phone number for fed-ex and Superior Enterprises' website!

so how do you go about this than if it is a buisness to buisness thing i am by far a buisness nor a breeder but some1 who loves reptiles and breeds them every so often and if some1 that i know in a diff state wants one of my offspring how would a every day joe go about doing it do you just lie to them and say you are a breeder and say its goin to a pet store or something or what. cause when i called before it started to get cold here in WI they gave me the runnarround like no tomorrow and wanted proof of me being a buisness and whatnot
