Antibiotic purchase

snakelady2 Jan 17, 2007 03:55 PM

OK learned herpists , I need to know how I can get some antibiotics for my snake. I have the name and doseage from my herp vet, but I'm a little frustrated with the clinic because they can't (for reasons unknown) ship me my milk snake's antibiotics because they are in a syringe. I understand this is probably procedure, but it really complicate my pet's life. I am snowed in in texas, the majority of the freeways have been very dangerous or shut down, so I can't drive the 50 miles north to the vet clinic. She has this stubborn respitory infection (aren't they always?). Does anyone know where I could pick this stuff up in dallas? Where do you breeders get this medication? Is there some sort of "snake pharmacy," LOL down here? There are no other descent herp vets in my area. I'd hate to have to wait 4 days to try and get this, she's already had symptoms the last couple days. Thanks so much!

Your veterinarian should be able to call the prescription into a local pharmacy, or forward the prescription to a veterinarian closer to you as a professional courtesy. Both methods are utilized with some degree frequency most everywhere. Also, you could have your veterinarian place the prescription via a one of the many mail order pharmacies, though they will not provide you with pre-loaded syringes and you will have to load such yourself…

Best regards,
