my painted turtle is already out growing his 20 gallon tank and needs to go in something bigger, but if it is bigger it will be impossible to clean from the room i have my reptiles in. so i thought about puting him in an outdoor pond, but when it gets cold i'll have to bring him in and put him in a tank any ways. so i have to keep him inside, but i need a filter that works very well, because the Duetto filter he has now does not work well at all (the tank gets dirty in about 1 week or so) what brand of filter should i get so i dont have to get rid of my turtle?

Duettos are worthless. I personally build my own filters, but if youre going to buy, go with a fluval 404 canister.

well i have different opinions about the fluvals
i think the penn plax casacde filters are way better
but anyway yes, a canister filter is a good idea. or two good large powerfilters (again the cascades are good or the hagen aquaclear series)
i recommend a tank at least 80 gallons for an adult painted.
maybe an indoor pond or stock tank is an option you should consider.

I just ordered my Filstar Xp3 online. I heard a lot of good opinions from other turtle owners. Brand new on the market, much more powerful than the Fluval 404. Cheaper too! Try an ebay search for "Filstar Xp3" you might find some that are below 100.
