Got one coming!!! Is anyone here keeping these beauties and if so, how are you keeping them? Enclosure conditions, feed schedule, etc. I've kept Boas for years in the past, but never an Argentine. Please post any pictures.
Thank you

my colombians and central americans...
They are all kept just the same, other than size of enclosure.
I only use Boaphile cages, mostly the 421D model for adult females and blanket box racks for adult males.
If I had females over 8', I would consider the 422D.
One of the only major differences is cooling for breeding.
The colombians are very delicate at this time.
The Argentines need to be cooled quite a bit more, even into the 60's... so they are much more forgiving with temperature fluctuation, and much hardier in that sense.
Oh, and they are FAMOUS for the HUFF AND PUFF attitude, but rarely bite, unless you let them fool you with that attitude and let them continue into adulthood. DON'T GIVE IN! lol
Best Wishes! Joe Rollo Bci Joe

Great info and pics!!! I love the black and white contrast on the Argentines and your hypo looking snake in with the big female is awesome!
I've handled them before and don't mind the huff/puff and possibility of getting bit. That sort of behaviour doesn't bother me.
I never appreciated these enough throughout the last 25-30 years of keeping Boas and other herps to keep them. I guess I was too into colorful Peruvians, Suris, and the like.
I remember seeing vast amounts of strikingly colored black and white imported and C.B. Argentines at stores, shows, etc. They were everywhere back in the day. They are so hard to find these days, especially snakes with high contrast.
I appreciate your response!
Thank you
I agree, they are very underrated animals...
Very few people I know of still deal with 'normals'.
I know Gus Rentfro and Eugene Bassett still work with these. I believe Mike Greathouse and Mark Kennedy also do, or have some available each year.
The animal pictured with the adult female is actually a Caramel or T Positive Albino.
John Mack works extensively with these and with the Motley Aegentine boas. Because of this, I would expect him to produce normals, poss hets and Hets each season.
Again, best wishes with yours!
Take care, Joe

Gus has some nice ones and I know he still has them because I am waiting on some pics from him. They are very underrated and since most people emphasize on how bright or vibrant their colors (other boas), it is nice to look at something black and gray with more irridescence than most- a great change of pace if you ask me.

Thanks to Joe and Bob for your responses and the great info/pics!
Salmontines, T 's, Argentines................You are a lucky man!
I think Argentines are one of the most unappreciated snakes out there.

I have a pair, that I really enjoy. I know everyone is into colors right now, myself included. I also have an appreciation for Argentines and Anerythristics. I guess there's something about the lack of reds, oranges, and yellows, that appeals to me. Plus my Argentines have been very hardy and docile. They are definitely underrated, IMO.
I agree. I love the blacks and whites. There is a STUNNING, big female black Peruvian for sale, but it is very expensive.
That's a snake I'd love to have.
Trying to post full size image

Let's see if it works
