Hi,

The previous owner is a _______ jerk!

Thanks for taking care of this poor Ig. You can get rid
of alot of the mites by soaking in warm water. Fill a tub
so that it comes up to about the Igs neck but do not leave
it there by itself. Just hold it in the water for 10-15
minutes and the majority of the mites will drown. You can
take a Q-tip and soak it in Provodine-Iodine which you
can get over the counter at any pharmacy. With this
Q-tip you can get on the face and around the eyes safely.
I would do this for a couple of days and then repeat as
necessary. If the Ig has open sores you can use a triple
antibiotic which you can also get at a pharmacy. It may
be a good idea to contact a rescue group and see if they
can help.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Thanks for your input im realy hopeing he even makes it hes been fighting for so long with it i just cant take it any more and im trying to do somehting more then just feeding him, have you guys ever heard or seen of anythign this bad ive certinly never and if so have they lived, it breaks my heart and it breaks my heart even more ot say the other thing which is im thinking to euthinize it just because he must be in so much pain i dunno i almost wanna scream at myself for saying that becaus ei always try to save the animals first its just you should see the conditioning of his skin it terrible, if in fact he lives and all of his skin does come off will it be a sore for life or will new skin grow or atleast a layer of somthing to cover the sores.

Thanks Sean
As much input as possible would be great

I agree with you and Linda, the owner is such a complete JERK, among other things. And THANKS&KUDOS for helping this ig out! Follow Lindas mite advice, and if you have a good veterinarian, he/she can administer fluids and take bloodwork and xrays to see what kind of shape the ig is in. Do you know what the previous 'owner' fed him? Baths and soaks are great for shedding, helping keep humidity high andthe ig will usually drink fluids or at least absorb it through vent tissue. Igs are hardy and while I dont know if your guy will make it, you can certinally try. Good luck

I have no advice to give you. Why don't you contact your vet and se if he won't give you a deal on some care, if he will get back in touch with me. If you feel the ig would be better off and out of prolonged pain if he went to the big rain forest in the sky, you are the only one who can make that judgement and you are not being evil or mean you are being kind. It is harder to send the ig on its way than let things go do you don't have to decide and the ig continues to suffer. Talk to a rescue person. I wish I could do more to help

is the store in pa? im kinda curious as to which one it is. if you treat him for mites and get his skin cleaned up he should make it without you having to euthanize him, but like they said, its your decision. i was also at the show in pa if your talking about the hamburg one. if the store is in pa, maybe i can stop by sometime... if i see the guy that dropped him off tho.... it wont be pretty, lol i dont think id be aloud in the store again good luck with him!!! i hope he makes it!
ps. have you thought about taking him home with you, instead of leaving him in a stress filled pet store... with ppl looking at him and stuff.

Is there a way you can de-mite him and bring him home and do an isolation? A rescue group you can call? Perhaps a vet that can help? De-mite him and do a fecal and check for any other contagens? I'd try to get him out of there somehow. He's gonna die there. I understand how helpless you feel. Maybe a friend could keep him at their house? Sounds like a cruelty report should be filed on this store. Good luck. We'll keep this guy in our prayers.
