Very interesting about the "hobby arcifera."

I saw a picture somewhere of a "real" arcifera, and it looked noticeably different than what I was used to seeing in the hobby. Lots of black just like yours there, and a head shape and banding different from that of ruthveni. Now I know why it looked different. 'Cause it was.

Yep,
It can be hard at times to tell people that there jaliscos are really just ruthveni. Lets hope that in the future some good taxonomy changes can be made to advance or hobby and to straighten out a very messy complex.

Two or three atleast! LOL! I'm starting to sound like my kids at Christmas time! Thanks for the pics Shannon. I drool every time you post those photo's. I have a question for you. I just recently got a pair of Aaron Mattson's Lloyd Lemke X Ric Blair Ruthveni. Do you know any of the background, local, on Lemke and Blair's stock?
Thanks,
-Phil

Thanks,

Well,I am not sure exactly what the background is on the female from Ric but Ric has told me she was a f1.
The male I do know about (I gave it to Aaron) and its a w/c old snake (probably 22-25 years old)and was w/c by Lloyd at Amaelco in the early to mid 80s.Its also the male that started all the aberrant ruthveni like the ones you see justin producing now.
I actually have the old male and rics female here now and I hope he breeds again.

Thanks for the pics Shannon. These are the first photo's I've seen of the parents of my pair. My male has a few of the broken bands that the dam has. Like Mother, like Son. So my pair are at least 50% Amaelco. Which means I just might have to get a pair of your Tapalpas, hmmmmmmm! LOL! Another question for you.
Are the red headed Ruthveni that you have, from a specific local, or has that trait shown up in more than one local?
Thanks for putting up with all of my questions.

Phil,
The read heads have shown up here and there but it is pretty common from the amaelcos.

I've had both forms from Bob over the years. The funny thing is from having his "arcifera" I thought them VERY different from the average milksnake and even discribed them to potential customers as "more like mountain kings" but tnever thought to look into it further or key them out.

shannon brown Jan 19, 2007 11:02 AM

Yep, They are very montane apposed to the slender fast moving true arcifera.
