z3speed4me Jan 18, 2007 09:57 PM

OK...just bought some tomato frogs and some green tree frogs, however the green trees dont eat anything, they just sit on the wall.

even when the crickets are put into the enclosure they still sit around and never go after a cricket...what can i do??

I have not had Green Tree Frogs but I assume they are like all my other TFs and are active at night. Have you checked out what happens after the lights go out? Often they return to the same spot each morning so you might not think they have been active. Also, sometimes certain frogs more than others take a while to adjust to a new habitat and get over the stress of being moved around. Many sites have care sheets for this species so you could Google for those and read through them to see if you are providing the right conditions for them to thrive. If you don't figure this out in a few more day then come back and give more details so someone can possibly give more specific suggestions. I also hope you are not housing them with the Tomato Frogs as they exude a toxic material from their skin that probably would not be good for the tree frogs.

hmmm well they are with the tomato's, since i was told by a couple people that the tomato's really dont pose a threat to them since they actually wont "touch" one another...

i have tried to feed at night, during day, with the lamp on and off, they SEE the food, crickets have actually crawled on them and they dont budge, i dont see how they just would simply not eat

the conditions are perfect for the tree's, and the tomatos just kinda deal with it

either way, maybe i will switch them out and see what happens, but they act fine, they chirp at night hop around when its dark, just simply do NOT eat

Well I do have several tree frogs of different species that I have never seen actually eat and I have had these for months now so I know they would be dead if they weren't eating. And I'm sure that at one time or another I have tried to get them to eat from forceps with not results. I say watch for poops and any difference in weight or activity as a sign something is wrong. I still think there is a good chance you will run in to trouble with housing them with the Tomato Frogs and I'm surprised that no one has come along here to make that statement.

I agree with Al about not seeing them eat. The only way to know would be to separate them and then see if there are crickets left. My grey tree frogs used to eat without me seeing them. They aren't shy any more though!

I don't know how agressive green tree frogs are and if the food is climbing on them and they don't eat it, I don't know if this would help, but for a while, I feed mine with bamboo tongs I got at the pet store.

I was afraid they weren't eating enough or that one was taking all the food. Turns out one's a female and just bigger. Anyway, I would pick up the crickets and wiggle it in front of them and they would grab it. They still head straight for the tongs when they see them because they equate them with food.

You might try tong-feeding just to see if they will do it. It works well if you have to feed dead food too because some won't eat dead food if it is lying in the bowl but will if it is waved in front of them.

Also, make sure the crickets aren't too big. I read they shouldn't be bigger than the distance between the frog's eyes, but mine have eaten them slightly larger than that. I buy them small but after I have them a few days, some always get big.

Hope this helps.

Diane
