clear tubes

zach_whitman Jan 18, 2007 10:04 PM

OK where do people find clear plastic tubes? like the kind usually used to handle venomous snakes. The home depot, lows, and local hardware guys don't have anything like that. Aside from snake handling what the heck else would those be used for?
cheers

That's where I got mine from.

We get our's from them as well. For heavier specimens (with the larger diameter tubes), we reinforce each end of the tube with heavy grade electrical tape around the edges to prevent the ends from cracking (which happens from time to time). Just a little helpful hint.

These work great. Perfect range of diameters and very functional. I have wondered about an alternative though for when a different length is needed. How about readily available polyethylene tubing? This comes in a variety of diameters and thicknesses for small to medium snakes. Another advantage is that it is cheap enough to justify cutting to any length. Being flexible may be a disadvantage, but some cable ties and a dowel could solve that. I don't THINK a fang could puncture it, but might be wrong.

The hardware places do carry flourescent light tube covers which are similar (if not the same) but without a selection of diameters. Also, pet stores sell undergravel airlift tubes that come in a few diameters. Might be worth checking out this category with one of the big online suppliers (only is you need one or two of the few available sizes).
