Fluffy is loose!!

gruveb May 20, 2003 11:33 PM

I have a new enclosure for him ( I think it's a him ) and when I went to do my afternoon check, he was out. Luckily the room is small, the closet is closed and there's not a lot of trouble to get into.

I'm actually not worried about him being lose, in fact he walked right past me as I sat on the floor and came right up to me, eye-ballin' my big toe like it was a healthy dish or something.

What do you guys that have free roaming tegus do to keep them safe and out of trouble?

One thing you'll want to watch out for is if you have a recliner they have moving gears and such that he could get caught in. It happened to me when I was a kid playing space ship in ours. You'll want to have a moist den for him so he doesn't have shedding problems. Maybe he'd get enough moisture if you give him a bath everyday. My setup allows them to come in and out of their cage as they please.

Your house stays warm enough for him to roam?

My tegu isn't really tame yet, no a isn't really about it, he's NOT tame yet. He would only be able to roam in the extra bedroom as my wife wouldn't allow it and we have a yorkie and an english mastiff that are both house dogs.

How bad is it when they deficate or urinate on the carpet?

For heat I put a basking spot with tiles on the floor for them, they can also go back in their cage by themselves. Usually they won't poop on the floor because I take them to the bathroom when they wake up. When they do it's just a little bit so I spray it with a deoterizer and clean it up with a paper towel. My carpet is getting replaced as soon as I move out in a month anyways.

Thanks. Last night he slept inside of a $400 speaker! I took the woofer out and found him in there under all of the insulation. I didn't want to try and take him out b/c I was afraid of him tearing up the wiring.

After he come out I'll move it so he can't get back there. The speaker is just being stored not used. That would be a rude awakening for him I'd assume!

On a side note, it was encouraging to see him being curious about me instead of afraid.
