Feeding question

Devildriver Jan 19, 2007 02:46 AM

My 16" Savannah is taking mice and crickets like a champ, but those seem to be all he wants. I know it is beneficial for them to have a varied diet so I've tried a couple other things including hardboiled egg and he shows absolutely no interest. Just wondering if this is a behavior that anyone else had experience with.
Just in case anyone asks, his surface basking temp is 110(trying to up it a bit from here) ambient temp of 76. He's housed in a 55 gallon aquarium on a Top Soil/Sand mix, hides on both the hotter side and cooler side of his enclosure. I'm working on his permanent home as we speak in a workshop.
He normally takes about 5-6 Fuzzies per week. I've tried Frozen/Thawed mice because I thought he could take one but he even seems to have absolutely no interest in that, although from what I understand monitors know if something is too large for them to eat and won't eat it, so maybe the mouse WAS too big.
Just curious if anyone had any advice.

your animal is eating rodents and insects fine, leave it at that and be successful. that is a healthy, nutritious, proven diet. check out this FAQ for more details.

and get that basking temp up. try using halogen flood bulbs, if you are not already. have a look at the ones listed on our site, they are long life, and very good.
