Green Leonis

Tony D Jan 19, 2007 08:49 AM

I was checking on my animals in hibernation this morning and this guy was a bit active so I thought I would try to get a getter pic of him. Still working on the settings so that I can capture his proper color. I think what I need to do most is get him out under some natural light.

Thats a beautiful snake. When I find a green, I want it to look just like that! Shoot me an e-mail if you can give me tips on where to acquire one like that...or if you will produce them.

There aren't many greens out there but in my experience they are associated with yellows. This guy was lemon yellow as a hatchling. Howie Sherman has a clutchmate to this one. At hatching they were nearly identical but his matured into an clean cream colored leonis. I do hope to produce some from this line this year.

Adam I haven't tried any outside photography as yet. In the afternoon I get some good indirect light on my "set" through the window but the glass in my windows filters UV which may or may not have an impact. I too am on a steep learning curve with digital cameras.

Tony i know what you mean, i can only really get a good shop in a sunny, ambient lit room, and that can be hard sometimes up here in northern Vermont, we tend to get alot of clouds. the pictures below were taken under a UV strip light and a yellow halogen that is in the the living room.

Beautiful snakes Adam. I like how the MSPs band count gets higher in the middle. Really neat.

I REALLY like that first one, not that they all aren't nice, but the triads on the first almost seem to pop out.

and it’s a nice pic too! Have you tried taking a pic in the shade, just barely out of the sun; keeps the light bright without too strong of a washout. Of course, I’m no photo taking pro.

He is beautiful and you did a fantastic job on capturing the green. Who did he come from?
Great pic.

Thanks. He is what I have left of my old line. When Windy and I started having children, I got rid of the vast majority of my snakes (everything but my hypo coastals really). My two best pair went to friends. This comes from the pair that went to Howie who lost the breeders, along with the rest of his collection, in a catastrophic heating failure a few winters back. The only reason this one remains is that I got a pair from him the year before. Anyway he is pretty much a Bob A. and Loyde L. derivative. I plan to breed him to a nice reduced black female from Chris Bodner’s yellow line. The female of the salvaged pair was given back to Howie along with a nice yellow male from Bob Johnson.

I am glad some of them got saved. That had to be devastating for your friend to loose all those animals.

Dang-it Tony that is one smokin' green Thayeri! Absolutely gorgeous. I think a female from MBs yellow line would be a great choice to pair him with. I can't wait to see what they produce. Can we see a pic of the female?
