new baby leopard gecko not eating

bindibabe Jan 19, 2007 08:54 PM

Hello everyone! I am new to this forum but look forward to chatting with you.
I have just recently began my leopard gecko "family". I have a total of 5 juvenilles. I am very concerned about one of them and would appreciate any advice.
I purchased an albino from Pet Smart a couple months ago. She died within a couple of weeks. Pet Smart did honor their guarantee and so I got a new leopard gecko as replacement. I have had her now for almost 3 weeks and she doesn't seem to be eating at all. She is VERY small, like the albino that I lost and hasn't grown at all since I got her.
I now have her isolated in a separate aquarium so that I can monitor her better. I have 5 small crickets as well as 2 meal worms in there and she seems uninterested in eating. I have even tried to hand feel her. She is very friendly and allows me to hold her etc. however, she spends most of her time in the coconut shell.
Does anyone have any suggestions on feeding her? I am real worried about her.
I feel part of the problem with her as well as the albino that I lost is that Petsmart is selling them too young. Right now she is only 3 to 3 1/2 inches long.
I appreciate any feedback you can offer. I am new at this but all 4 of my other new geckos are doing wonderful.
Thank you so much!
Linda

Temps, substrate? humidty? You keep them all together?? Not a good idea. I would def. keep them all seperate. I have 6 and they all have there own tanks. It's just healthy for the leo. Also they get very stressed and sometimes don't eat for the first few days. Not sure how long you have exactally had her. It took my male about 1 week to start eating now he eats everything. If they had him on sand, he maybe impacted. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your information. I have had her isolated in her own tank so I could monitor what and if she is eating. I am happy to say that she is eating now. I have done a lot of gecko searching so I don't remember who gave me this suggestion... but I put a very small amount of stage 1 baby food (turkey) on the end of her nose. She licked it off and ever since seems to be eating both crickets and meal worms!!!! I am new at this but love my geckos and would be heart broken if something would have happened to her. I have another one (which was again, a replacement from Pet Smart for one I lost)that is doing the same thing. So, I am trying the same approach with her. Although, I am new at this I really think (due to the high demand) Pet Smart is selling them way too young. Each one that I purchased there seemed literally afraid of the crickets and worms and would run from them. The ones that I purchased at a different store were a little older and have all been thriving excellent! Again, thank you so much for your help!
