Update on the "bad morning"

FredLobster Jan 20, 2007 01:01 PM

So Rosco's been inside for the past week while the ice and a bit of snow covered Austin. We've been keeping him warm and his appetite hasn't changed at all, but he's still a got a bit wheeze and I've seen a bubble or two coming out of his nose.

Even though he's still eating, pooping, and his breathing isn't labored I took him to the vet this morning. We're going to go ahead and put him on Baytril for the next 14 days. That way we can knock out whatever is going on with his respiratory system before it has opportunity to get bad.

When I get my tax refund we're putting a shed in his yard, and maybe a girlfriend for him in the spring.

I send healing vibe! It can be difficult when a lil'friend isn't well; it's easy to get discouraged because as keepers of these wonderful gems we want them to get better- fast. Remember Rosco's metabolism is 'tortoise'-slow; be patient as he heals. He is eating so that is a wonderful indication he's got fight! Give him baby warm soaks and keep him warm.

Sorry to hear that Roscoe did end up sick.
Did your vet get you a tube of probiotics for him?
Last time our sulcata took Baytril she had to have it because in the fall she spent the night outdoors in her unheated house when it was supposed to be in the upper 60s but it dropped down to 50, she did get too cold & started snuffling. Then she absolutely needed the probiotics because the Baytril upset her stomach terribly.
One big dose for her weight one week then another dose the next week fixed her up just fine.
If your vet didn't get you any, please ask about it.
Good luck with Roscoe!
