Breeders other jobs

pc_allen Jan 20, 2007 01:50 PM

Hey everyone! This question may be a bit personal so please don't take offense. I'm pretty young, 24 as of yesterday, and I have a degree that I don't use but need to secure a good job. I was just wondering what some of you guys do for a living other than breed awesome herps or if some of y'all are able to breed for a living. I would love to do nothing but breed snakes but I don't know if one can really support him/her self by doing it.
Thank you, you guys rock

Interesting question -- psychotherapist in NY. Breeding herps for over 13 years but have slimmed down significantly due to the overwhelming demands of the profession -- especially after 9/11.

I graduated from Kansas State University in 1983 with a BS in History. I went through the Army ROTC program and was commissioned a 2LT. I spent a little over 9 years on active duty (Infantry). While on active duty I also earned my Masters Degree in Management from Webster University. My last duty assignment was teaching Army ROTC at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University here in Prescott, Arizona. I stayed in the Prescott area after getting out of the Army and worked for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Yavapai College, and Safeway before I started my second career with the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.

I also have been doing taxidermy since 1974 on a part-time basis and breeding snakes have always been a hobby.

My personal limit has always been to limit myself to around 100 breeders. I also raise my own rodents.

I love living in Arizona and besides my hobby site (www.lonesomevalleyreptiles.com), I also have 2 other web sites:

www.snakesofarizona.com

www.snakesofkansas.com

And I'm the webmaster for out state taxidermy association.
Arizona Taxidermy Artists Association
www.taxidermyataa.com

You're forgiven for being a Jayhawk LOL

I'm a high school biology teacher. I do lots with my snakes at school, as a result, even the other science teachers think I am weird haha!
