I was just wondering if these animals are living as far north in the wild as NY State. We have plenty of garters and I've heard people finding 'corn snakes' in the corn at farm markets... They may be milks...
Anyone know?

Cornsnakes are only found to my knowledge as far as Southern New Jersey, What those people are finding in the corn shipments are Eastern Milksnakes(Lamplopeltis t.triangulum) as they have dark "blotches" on the back somewhat resembling a cornsnake. Either that, or the corn is from further south in "cornsnake territory".....................................Doug

well being from new york myself their are not any corns but young black rats can look alot like corns to the unknowledgleable and their are black rats in new york state as well as pennsylvania. but the eastern milks that i have found in new york resemble corns also to a point i guess. they are usually brownish grey blothes sometimes green on a slate grey/tan background. i had pictures of one i caught but ill have to upload them again. you could also look at the nys herpatlas online through the dec and they show pictures i believe.

I suspect that what people call 'corn' snakes in the corn batches up here are another type of snake that just happens to be around the corn. Ha ha.
