Mealworm Question !

Breaker4show Aug 10, 2003 07:50 AM

Hi,
I have 10 Leopard Geckos and the collection is exspanding and i was thinking it was time to start breeding mealworms. I know what they need for moisture and bedding but is a 12qt rubbermaid big enough for 1 thousand in a inch or so of bedding ? Also, will they smell if they are in my bedroom because that is the only place i can keep them.

THanks Alot,
Nick

I keep my mealworms in 3 different plastic shoe boxes each with an inch of bedding. 12 qts.. i can't picture it, but as long as it's the same size if not bigger, than a plastic shoe box you're fine.

As for the smell, mine don't smell at all.. just keep track of your water source to make sure it's not rotting or anyting and you should be fine

I have 2 boxes for my mealies now.. and they hold about 6000 mealies right now. One is a 4 tiered drawer system...top 3 drawers are mealies.. last one is Superworms.. And then I have a 3ftx18 inch storage box that I keep the bulk of my breeding stock in now. Holds about 2000 mealies and beetles itself.. the rest are in my drawer system.. 1000 should be fine with adequate food and moisture in a shoe box sized container.
