What a pretty turtle!!
I'm glad the ear surgery went well.

As for names I like to name mine based on circumstances.
Shell E is the only one I did not name.. she got that name because she was wild, she was broken, I took her to a vet who agreed to treat her for no fee if I paid for supplies needed.
The vet's receptionist named her only because she needed a name to put on the records. She said Shelly? I said ok but spell it Shell E so it'll be a little bit different.
When I took in Hope after ear surgery she was named that because we hoped she'd live.
Charity was a charity case
Janie came this close()to meeting with calamity
Hobo was the bum who came here every year for handouts
Kibbles came close to being a milkbone
Chip had a broken piece of shell hanging off him that looked like a tortilla chip.
Fate brought Destiny our sulcata to our door.

Circumstances named them all except for Shell E so that's one method of finding a name.
Another method is watch them for a while & name them based on behavior.
My mud turtle scoots along the bottom of his tank, he's Scooter.
My pac man frog is yellow & they have such a sunny disposition. (lol) his name is Sunny.
Good luck choosing a name.

He looks really friendly! Cute little guy.... I hope my three-toed looks like that when he/she reaches that age.

For a while my baby 3-T would only be partly buried in Sphagnum, with the head out so he could see what is going on. Now he has resorted to being completely covered again.

May I suggest something funky that I often do with my animals..? I find a characteristic, and the word for it in another language.

For this tortie I may suggest...
a. Niswi (Algonquin, or Native American for "three"
b. Nondam (Algonquin for "hear"

I'd start there because of the turtle's "ethnicity." But I always can suggest:

a. Sikio, Swahili for "ear"
b. Tatu, Swahili for "three"

My $0.02..

Wanda

PS: I named my red footer "Suki", Japanese for "loved one" because of her birthmark in the shape of a heart, on her forehead.

Ok, with my warped sense of humor, and, knowing about the ear surgery, I'd be tempted to call him Van Gogh.

But that's just me.

Bwhahahahahaha I love it!
People thought I was mean to name Chip, Chip because of why I did it.
I like it though & of course he has nicknames now. Mr. Chips, Chipster, Chiparooni, Chip the man.. lol

How about Pierce?

RMB Jan 21, 2007 09:30 PM

Since that's what the vet did to the turtle...

I like Lance, but not sure, yet.
What do you guys think of Ferris or Deacon(Beacon)??
I like naming like this. It would be cool to have an Eastern Box called Darth Maul!!

Ric-
He ate today and is sleeping on the cool side. His eye seems fine. Sometimes it looks a little bulgy and sometimes not. (The picture is from the other day after his surgery). I think they (box turtles) kind of control that to some degree.
He doesn't look like an Oreo to me- Sorry! I really thought you might be going somewhere with the orange and black thing. Maybe something Halloweenish??

Thanks-
Kevin

Hi Kevin,

How's his left eye doing? And the incision?

Regarding a name.....hmmm.... and since PHratz suggested linking it to an occurrence. Well he just had ear surgery...and in french I happen to know the oreille means ear .... possibly if we americanize it a bit, and combine it with his coloring (orange and black skin )...hmmm... now they do have an orange and black cookie... linked it with this similar spelling, which may tie in with his ear surgery.... I know this is hard to follow.

Anyway...Ok after all that I'm proposing something simple and short...

"OREO"

That reminds me...now... I just need a glass of milk and some ........
