well i definetly would like to purchase some sort arboreal snake. but, i just can't decide. i really like GTP's and i also like ETB's but i can't decide which to get. ATB's are very cool too. i guess i'll just have to build/buy a cage and then decide.
maybe i'll eventually buy them all! does anybody have any sort of feed back on these three types of snake?
thanks,
Sam.

I prefer the green tree pythons. I looked into chondros and ETB's when I was going to get arboreals. I decided number one, that chondros came in a greater variety of coloration and pattern. I loved the blue in the markings. Also the average cost of a regular chondro is less than the average basin. I am now getting an ATB. I'll probably end up with more in the future, but I don't like all the color variations. This one is a red patternless. At least without any markings as yet.

I have 6 Chondros and 8 Emeralds and the Chondros are far easier to care for! Emeralds are much less forgiving to even minor husbandry mistakes - I'm talking Northerns here, not Basins. Northerns require specific temp. gradients, humidity parameters, air flow, and will suffer if fed too often or to large of a meal.

The positive about Emeralds is they eat less and therefore require less clean-up. And you don't have the incubation headaches either!

'Course you could flaunt convention and go w/Scrubs! This way you get the hardiness of a Chondro w/an Emeralds attitude! Whats not to love about an 8'+ arboreal?? LOL

When I first started collecting arboreals, I jumped right into buying a couple pairs of chondros and ETB's. I agree with Bill in that chondros are easier to keep of the two. Everything has to be just right for ETB's to thrive. Chondros require specific environmental conditions as well though but are more forgiving of "slight errors".

Although I initially shunned them off, I recently began acquiring ATB's and must say that I am quite pleased with them. I have heard that these are even more forgiving of husbandry errors than the other two but I am not about to test that theory.

My personal opinion would to not acquire an ETB as your first arboreal. ATB's are very hardy and relatively inexpensive compared to the other two, so they may make a good starter animal for you. Chondros will always be my favorite though so I would never try to disuade someone from going that direction. Assuming, of course, you do your research.

Good luck in whatever you decide.
