My Western has eaten every week since I got her nearly a year ago. She was about a year old at the time. 3 weeks ago I ran out of F/T pink rats (her usual food) & she went a week w/o food. The next week she wouldn't eat a live fuzzy (I think she's ready to move up in prey size) or an adult mouse. This week she refused a small fuzzy again, not even trying it.

I know it's normal for snakes to go off feed at times, it's just that she never has. Is this OK/normal? Nothing else has changed in her environment & she doesn't appear ill.

I wouldn't worry about anything at this time of year (winter), It might take a little while because it starts eating again, but It doesn't seem like that will be harmful.

And I have to ask what would posses you to try a life mouse for a western hog that eats f/t? Though I haven't seriously tried feeding mine live I have don't a little test and the hog seemed to be scared of the mouse more than anything.

I tried a frozen/thawed adult mouse, 'cause that was all I could get. When she refused that I stretched a bit & found a new source for rat pinks/fuzzies. I picked up a batch from the guy & had him leave one fuzzy live 'cause I figured why have him freeze it so I can defrost it an hour later to feed to her. She refused it (that would be week 2), then refused a f/t fuzzy this week, too.

I have an Addy the Spreading Adder- my Eastern! Spreading Adder is a vernacular name for the Eastern.

Yes, I am talking about Addy, only her full name is "Addy the Death Adder" Likely for the same reason, as she's constantly hissing at me & spreading her hood like a tiny cobra! I think it's the funniest thing!
