Could this be it??!!

Ok..This is the story. On December 31, 2006 I took this picture of the pair of Suris that have been going at it since early November. (as a frame of reference for size)

This second picture was taken two weeks later on January 14, 2007, when I "thought" I saw her looking kind of "footballish". I didn't post this at the time because I have jumped the gun a couple of times already (in my excitement and anticipation) and thought I saw ovulation when I didn't. (pardon the mess in the corner of the cage...it was cleaned up promptly after the pic)

The thing was that she wasn't HUGE like some of the ovulations I have seen but she did, at least to me, look bigger than she had appeared prior to this date. A couple of days later I really didn't notice any swelling so I thought that once again my mind was playing tricks on me. Then, last night about 3:00am I noticed that the belly scales at the tail appear to be blueing over the black markings!!! She is going into shed almost exactly one week after what I thought was a really nice swell! So my question is (of course) since this looks pretty by the book as far as timing. Should I consider this her post ovulation shed?

Side note is that the little male still is showing interest (he is turning out to be a star in the bedroom).

Opinions from those who have bred boas is welcomed.

Thanks for the long read.

How do you feel about feeding the females during pregnancy? The reason I ask is because she was rather smallish before I decided to try her this season (only 6 ft or so and around 11 lbs) so I would like to at least give her a couple of half sized meals why she is gravid to help her to keep her energy up and to prevent any too much weight loss. She last ate at the end of October. I was thinking of giving her a medium or large rat (she usually takes XXL's from Rodentpro) right after she comes out of shed. Anyone with suggestions for or against doing this?

Thanks for any advice.

Well, I've got limited breeding experience (last season was my first shot at it), but what I did was continue to feed my female small meals (she usually eats xl rats and I would only feed her 1 or 2 smalls at a time), wait for her to defecate, and then feed her again. From what I understand, the biggest risks come late in the term and feeding too large or too late can cause major issues with the unborn babies. So, with that said, my girl never refused a meal during her entire term, BUT I cut her off about 45 days before her due date. She delivered 15 healthy, full term babies and 1 still at 89 days POS. Even with the intake during her term, she was still waaay wiped out and super thin after giving birth, but gained it all back in just a few months. Again, this worked well for me because I let my girl tell me what she wanted and just used some common sense to go along with what she was telling me. YMMV....

Congrats and that definitely looks like ovulation in the pic! Hopefully you get a nice pile like the below in about 4 months!

Billy

Yeah,

Danktat.after she sheds you could feed her a small / medium rat every two weeks and STOP a MONTH before she drops. The babies always end up comming out huge and healthy. She will also gain her weight back much more quickly.

So I get first pick,RIGHT !!!
