found a lizard, need help to identify it

chbin Aug 10, 2003 09:48 AM

Dear all,
this evening while in the loo doing a 'small business' - i saw a big 'cicak' - screamed my head off. too big for a house gecko!! my darling managed to capture it and we thought of keeping it BUT need to identify what species it is, just to make sure it is not poisonous!!!

please advise if it is safe to keep it and how to handle?

The specimen is a Water monitor (Varanus salvator)

ok - i live in Malaysia, in the city though. didn't really know where it came from. thought of keeping it but if it is a monitor, it will be too huge to handle. i think i will release it to the forest. what do you think?

Devlin,

How is it going with the dracos? The one you're holding in the pic looks fat and healthy. Good job. Haven't seen you on the mhd forum lately and it's good to know you are still going with these neat little guys.
