Minimum weight for Breeding

pinky Jan 22, 2007 03:03 PM

I know this has beed discussed to death, but I would like to have examples of minimum weights actually used for breeding. I know the recommended is around 300 g, but but I'm sure some breed under that weight. For example this Het Ultra Lav is 220g. Do you think that she will be ready come spring?

Yes, she will be capable of breeding this comming year, she just won't have as big of a clutch as a larger female, and the eggs are sometimes more elongated on very small females to compensate the young in being normal sized........hope this helped..........................................Doug

Would she be ready? Yes, definitely...but...would it be better to wait another year, get 200-300 more grams on her so she will be able to handle everything easier, not to mention a larger more healthy clutch...well...that's for you to decide.
