misting.......

SamRIII Jan 22, 2007 03:58 PM

what is the most inexpensive(but functional)way to hook up a timed misting system? also, do you think that a 3'wide by 3' high by 2' deep cage would be a good size for a GTP? i've read that they do fine in 20*20*20 but i feel that is to small, i'd like to give the snake room to roam. ive seen some pretty nice set ups on habitat systems web site. they also had the misting kits. has anybody purchased anything from them? are they a good company to buy from?
thanks
Sam.

I don't know of a misting system except maybe pro mist systems. I prefer to manually mist as it's part of my time to check my animals and I've heard of a lot of problems with misting systems such as clogging etc. As far as housing, it depends upon the size of the animal. A cage you describe would be far too large for a young chondro, but would be fine for an adult female or an active male. Any larger than that and you have trouble maintaining a proper temp and humidity. Most people actually use 24 cubed, not 20, but I think it is too small, especially for active snakes that like to explore like my one female does.

I have a Rainmaker System. One pump/resevoir controls 8 cages and 3 Chameleon enclosures. Unlimited settings/durations. I have an aquarium heater in the resevoir which keeps it nice. I put drain holes connected to tubing in each cage so the water doesn't sit on the bottom all day. It took a little tinkering bt I have it now so humidity peaks around 1:30PM (70%) and its down to about 40% by morning.

I use 24" cube Barrs cages and 32" custom acrylic cages. None of my Chondros move much and the Emeralds are like statues, except when in the "hunting" pose. Heat panels now cover the tops of the custom cages.
