UPDATED pics of our SUNBURST PASTEL's

rkreptiles Jan 22, 2007 04:56 PM

Here are updated pics of our Sunburst Pastel Females. The male is almost completely healed up from his rat attack and will hopefully be ready for pics after his up coming shed. I am soo looking forward to producing more of these guys this season as well as some awesome crosses next season with them. The second pic girl is in shed again. I can never get them all post shed at the same time and it seems like they shed all the time and grow so quickly. The first female is 450 grams and the second female is 350 grams now.

can you tell us about the rat attack?

rkreptiles Jan 22, 2007 06:10 PM

I normally feed live small rats to my juvenile snakes. I happen to place a rat in the males cage like normal. The only thing different was this rat was brown unlike the normal white or hooded rats I get from my supplier. I dropped the rats like normal and went on feeding. I came back a short time later (less than 15 minutes if I remember correctly) and found that the rat had chewed the males spine. He chewed some pretty good size chunks out and I was scared that the male would not make it. Well here it is roughly 2 months later and the male is almost back to 100% normal. The scars are almost not noticeable and look like a darker blushed area. He is going into shed again and this should shed him back to even more close to normal. This is just another reason why I am starting to breed my own rats (not only to save myself $500 per month).

i feed live to but i really wish i my ball pythons would eat p/k. why dont you feed p/k? my promblem is my collection is a distance from where i live and so i am there every few days to take care of them but to leave a p/k item and return the next day to see if they ate them is a little difficult right now but as soon as i move closer distance to my collection thats exactly what i will be doing. thanks for your post!

I have most that will not eat FK. For some reason they show interest and then when it is placed into the cage dead they will not touch it. I hate wasting a rat and don't want to leave a FK rat in the cage for long so I just feed live. I do have a few that will eat FK and feed them that way. I hope they will all get there sooner than later.

"yeah, eagles have feathers hanging off of them too and I don't smoke --- out of them!" PS it was a dream catcher!

It is cypress mulch. We use it in all our cages.

I agree. I am trying to convince myself to buy a Digital SLR but I hate spending money specially with the money I am getting ready to spend on the new reptile building (pictured is what we are going to build). I have been looking at the Nikon D-40 & D-80 and Cannon Rebel XTi 10.1 meg & EOS 30D.
