Little help over here

subsonic816 May 21, 2003 12:00 AM

I recently moved back home from college and brought with me the best little male RES (1 year old this month!). My girlfriend has been taking care of another young turtle we took off the hands of a friend who didn't want her anymore. Two days ago I put the two in the same tank and since they are just about the same size and age. My male is and has been a very shy little turtle and the female has always been somewhat agressive. The two seem to do thier own thing for the most part but every once in a while I catch them nipping at each other. Sometimes the bits look like they hurt. I was really wondering if these two should be seperated for good or if infact they will get useld to each other over time. One is a 9 month old female (who has been alittle overfed and seems to have some trouble swimming to the top of the tank) and the other is a 1 year old male (who has become just a bit more agressive since meeting the female). Thanks everyone, your input has helped me so much in the past, that's why I'm here now!!

If they are only 9 months and one year old. They are both too small to accurately sex. As far as the aggression goes turtles do nip at eachother from time to time. If they are not cutting eachother or doing any damage and have a large enough environment (what size tank are these guys in?) they should be fine. If they are persisitent in this behavior I would consider separating them to avoid stressing them out.

Good Luck
