Snow? How?

mack1time Jan 22, 2007 06:48 PM

So I am curious on how snow boas are maid? Is it the same method used with corns? anery and amel = snow?

So if I have a male albino boa and got a anery boa. Do i get snows? or would i get all normals double hets then have to breed back the babies?

2.2 Columbian common boas (Zeus, Athena, Aphodite, Hades)
1.1 Corn snakes (Appolo, Boreas)

Snow is both anery and albino, to get a snow, both parents must have at least one of each gene. So anery x albino = DH snows

I know nothing of boa genetics. I know corn snake genetics.. But, not boas.. But, how would it be DH snow if you bred an albino with an anery? Double het implies that he is het for two genes. Albino & anery. Wouldn't he be DH albino & anery, or just het snow, not DH snow? To me, DH snow seems to say that he is het. for two different types of snow.

You're arguing semantics.

By double het snow they meant hetrozygous for 2 traits which when both expressed is called "snow".

if i bred albino by anery I would get all DH for anery and albino but normal in apperance? Then if i bred two of the siblings together what would i get for an outcome?

You'd get roughly:
1/16 snow (anery amel)
1/8 anery het for amel
1/16 anery
1/8 amel het for anery
1/16 amel
1/16 normal
1/8 normal het for amel
1/8 normal het for anery
1/4 normal DH (het for anery & het for amel)

Keep in mind that these are the expected ratio's not what you will necesarily get. Just like you sometimes get a clutch of all males you can likewise get a clutch of all normals.

Hope this helped.
