We're off to Panama

vegasbilly Jan 22, 2007 07:47 PM

The wife and I are off to Panama tomorrow for a week of real estate prospecting. We're actually going to Red Frog Beach which is on a group of islands called the Bocas del Toro. Oddly enough, there's a big write-up in R&A this month about EXACTLY where we're going.

If we buy a place I may never come back...wait, we still have kids at home LOL! Hopefully we can find a nice lot to build on for future vacations/eventual retirement. Pics to follow if I see any cool herps!

Bill,
Make sure it is a really big lot so the rest of us can follow you down!
Hopefully you get some time while property searching to get some quality time reptile searching. Also dont forget the camera to send us back some good pics!
Have a safe trip, and happy hunting!

I LOVE Bocas del Toro! The Dendrobates pumilio complex is so amazing there! And they're everywhere! I'm actually looking to do my Masters work there on those little frogs. Enjoy it and take lots of pictures!

I'll second that. Bocas del Toro is great and the pumilio are incredible little frogs. Also, what type of work are you considering doing with the pumilio for your masters, if you don't mind me asking?

Pic below is a bad shot of a pumilio taken on Bastimentos right along red frog beach.

Funny you ask that, I'm just down working on figuring that out. I'd like to do something with behavior, mate choice, and perhaps habitat specificity of the different morphs. Something along those lines. If I get down to Panama this May, part of what I'll be doing is just asking questions to find one for my master's thesis.
