"Greeri?" - Update

Mike17l Jan 22, 2007 09:21 PM

I emailed around to find out a little more about the two snakes I posted earlier today. Here is the reply:

"OK- about those snakes... Marcos did get them from me...I try to give him lampropeltis whenever possible since he likes them so much (he catches me s. tx herps whenever I need something...so they are usually just payback for favors).

First off, they are NOT L. mexicana geeri... They are from an Albino Thayeri hybrid project I have... the bloodline was outcrossed once a LONG time ago to an albino rutheni (Quatero king).... the guy who I got them from has been refining his bloodline by breeding back to thayeri for probably 10-12 years... I kept 1.1 albino animals and gave Marcos the two het albino females I had.

#1 animal (light grey w/ red bands) 100% albino het Thayeri hybrid king

#2 animal- one of the best I've seen (reduced pattern/bowtie line) 66% chance het albino Thayeri hybrid king

I am usually REALLY against hybrids, but the albino thayeri hybrids are just plain "pretty"... Check out Steve Osborne's site (www.professionalbreeders.com ) for a look at his "pastel" kings.... The guy I got these from (out of Houston- forgot his name) started his bloodline refinning the same time Steve began working on his Pastel King project.

Hope that clears the mess up a bit!"

Here are the pics again:

So apparently I have an interesting hybrid thayeri thing going, guess I need to check the sex on these and find a male.

Well that's cool you found out exactly what they are. I don't particularly care for hybrids but those albino thayeri X ruthveni certainly are very pretty and I can see why many people like them.
