Weird question

nogarocrested Jan 22, 2007 09:22 PM

Ok I wonder if someone has an answer to this one;
One of my males is having a weird problem, it looks like he relieves himself but it is really gooey. Then, get this, he turns around and licks it up, any one have any idea what hes doing?

Do you have females with him? If so, he is "cleaning himself" after they have copulated. It is what they do.

Well he's housed with a male that he's been with since birth but now that I think about it, I've only seen him doing it when we feed 4 of our geckos crickets at the same time in a big sterlite container, it's fun to watch, thank god they get along. One of them is a female who is housed with a different male for breeding. But I'm scared that he could be gay (not to offend anyone) because I've seen the two males cuddling together before. So I don't know whats going on, maybe I should try to breed the one that has the "problem"?

what are the ages and weights of all your geckos?
males should never be housed together.
also, a gecko cannot BE gay.
breeding is not to be taken lightly.

My Males are 22,24,and 30 grams and share the same hatch date and they are all 9 months. My female is 32 grams and 13 months. The 30 gram male is currently house with the female And I'm not taking breeding lightly at all. And the males have been housed together their whole lives and they have never ever fought. And the gay thing is a joke, I know they can't

Regardless of how long they've been together, you should seperate the males. How would you like to be in one room your whole life with another guy? You may not have seen them fight, and they may be 'cuddling' (probably for warmth) but I mean..come on. Males together is a nono for most geckos.

Housing male cresteds together is okay in many cases. I have housed males together for years with very little incidences. I think right now I have 4 or 5 cages with 2 (and up to 6) males in them. As long as they are the same size and there is no female present (or ever was with one of the males) then there should not be a problem. I have never had a male lose a tail from another male and I think I had one or two incidences with biting. And the biting was caused when I placed a breeder male with another male... so I seperated him out. Also, if they were raised together they are rarely aggressive.

Actually any animal can be hemosexual, but it would be the case of a male attempting to attract another male as females do, (or female a female as males do). However, this is typically an experimentally induced thing in labs where they remove their gonads and/or use hormones to control the behavior...

However, since emotions don't play into gecko breeding they don't fall in love or anything.

i think it would be more common for a "hot-hatched" female gecko (one which was incubated for a short time at higher temperatures, is a female, but with hormones and behavior more like a male) to try to mate with another female than for a male to try to mate with another male.
