Teeny Tiny Everglades (pics)

Iriri Jan 23, 2007 01:28 AM

The day I got her, I had my doubts about the "Everglades", as she was a rather dull brown. But, hey, she wasn't expensive, and I love all rat snakes anyway (several of my snakes are yellow rats adopted from a rescue organization--surrendered for being snarky) Here she is at 6 grams, in her deli cup, three months ago:

Here she is today, already orangeypink:

She's super calm, no fear at all, but not aggressive, and eats like a dream. Can't wait to see her all grown up

My first Everglades experience was an education snake that was 6' long and very thick. He was the friendliest snake in the collection. I haven't met another like him since little Claudia here; most of them are evil, apparently!

She is turning color nicely!! I just got a Glades this weekend at a local herp show. The vendor bascially threw it in for free with an albino black rat I bought. It is VERY tiny and THIN, but I got it to feed on a pinky with a bit of tease feeding the day after I got it. I can't wait for the color to start coming in and get if feeding on f/t pinks on its own!!!

Best of luck with your Glades!!

This little one was six grams when I picked her up at a herp show. Fortunately for me (and her), she ate f/t right away. Tiny hatchlings make me a little nervous

Beautiful pics! I love watching the color change. It's nice to hear that somebody got a nice one. Mine would rip my hand off if they were big enough.

I am amazed at her progression already; she's going to be a beauty.

I hear a lot of Everglades are pretty nasty. I guess I'm lucky I have a crazy speckled king, however, that likes to eat fingers.

Mark Banczak Jan 23, 2007 12:21 PM

I'm sure you'll never regret getting her. Glades are my favorites. Despite the demons I sold Viborero , the vast majority of my Glades have been very sweet. None of my adults have ever bit but some of the babies are just plain cranky.

Awesome animal Mark, love the color!

Okee, that girl in the picture is my first Glades and she is still my favorite. I got her from Dwight Good awhile back. I imagine he still lurks out there somewhere.

Good to see your name on a post once in awhile. I almost sent out a search party last year. Hope all is well with you.

Some of them need more patience than others, for sure! I am really enjoying her tinyness, but I'm going to be a seriously proud snake mama when she's a big, beautiful adult.

I love the picture you posted; those guys are fiery!
