Well I got lucky and got a great looking arboreal cage for the rock bottom price of free but it needs a lot of work before I can move anyone into it. I'd really like to put my Taiwan beauty snake in it, as she is the only arboreal animal I have. The dimensions of the cage are 6' tall, approx, 3' wide and 2' deep. The bottom 1' 1/2-2' is solid wood all around except the front panel opens downwards with latches on each side. The front and right side have plexiglass windows which are both cracked so I'll be replacing them with either real glass or new plexiglass, preferably real glass. The front plexi window opens sideways as the main access door for the encloser. The left side is also solid wood. The top in screen and there are circular air vents all along the bottom. It also has casters for easy moving. So far the ideas I've had for fixing it up, besides replacing the plexiglass which a no brainer, is to screw branches throughout it, ledges large enough for her to curl up on, and an elevated hide box. Her water will sit on the floor. One question I had is can you attach UTHs to wood? Does it burn? Can I sandwich it between two pieces of wood as a basking spot? And for making the hide box, what kind of wood is safe, I know cedar and pine are bad, but what kind should I use? If you have any better ideas please let me know, I'd love to hear what you guys think. Thanks in advance! Oh and I don't have a photo yet but heres a sketch of the dimensions and such.
