something wrong or is she normal?

ronald_durst Jan 23, 2007 08:57 PM

Ive had this gal for a while and shes been great. she started off a little skittish but shes gettin better. She's been eating really well. Very eager actually, when its feeding time. shes very active when i handle her. Holding on with her tail and flickin the tongue. Trying to get away and showing great displays of strength like most healthy snakes do. I do have one concern about her and it is how her scales dont seem to be as shiny as ive seen on others. This could be normal....or it could be something im doing wrong. She still has some shine to her but still kinda dull. She could be about to go into shed but i jus wanna be sure. I once had a blotched kingsnake that lost its shine...soon after i found it dead covered in mites....this was only a month after i bought it.
So i am concerned and im gonna watch her closely.

Does anyone have any ideas? Seen this before?
Here are some pics i took of here a few minutes ago.

She does look like she could be going into shed. Until you know for sure, double check your husbandry. Also check her over for mites. I do a quick check on mine by firmly running my hand down their body. Then quickly look at your hand for anything moving. You could also give her a warm soak in water and then check the water for mites. A light colored bucket/bowl works best. Her eye caught me as unique. Does she have light eyes like the picture or was that a trick of the camera?

Ok so i jus checked for mites and i see no visible signs of them. Everything seems to be ok with the enclosure although im gonnna pay attention to her temp more often. Her eyes are dark...i guess that was jus a reflection from the light above. Ive been having a Relic, my other ball, for about 3 yrs now. I got her at pet shop as a baby. maybe 6 months old. Anyway, ive never had problem with her at all. Shes always been beautiful. Shiny, active and healthy. So i do have a little experience. I dont see why i cant get this one right too.

Here's Relic

I agree, she looks like she will shed soon.

I think she's very pretty, and mine tend to dull out before a shed too.

Nice Granite.. It doesnt look like she is going into shed. It looks like she needs to shed. Give her a little soak in the tub.
