Boiga nigriceps (Dark-headed catsnakes).

Just bought a six foot WC male. Anyone ever had any experiences with these? What about being tagged? Dr. Bryan Fry had written me that they cannot harm humans, but I have read some stuff about nasty bites. Can anyone provide any care info as well.

Thanks.

So, instead of getting a rusty red snake with a green head and small body, I got a very long (six ft or more) gray, green snake with a normal colored head. I will try and post a pic...anyone have idea of what it could be?

Hi Sure looks like nigriceps to me. What you are describing is a juvenile cyanea.

This is more what I was expecting.

Very docile snake. Has not tried to strike once...though I will not be getting any "warmer" snake then this. I would like to see some info on bites from this snake as there is no antivenom. Dr. Bryan Fry said a long sleeve and garden gloves will prevent any kind of enveomation so that I how I will alway handle this guy.

Very cool looking animal. Glad that is is not a psycho striker.

I See what you mean but in the text it does say it can be Olive Green body so it appears that that is what you have. I must say that all the nigriceps I have seen have been of the Olive Green type.Still a good looking animal . Apparently from what I have read the venom can be more of a problem than some other Boigas.

I have emailed with Dr. Bryan Fry and Hans from naturemalyasia.com and they confirmed it. Dr. Fry said the vemom is as toxic as a Death addler! but not much threat to humans because they have such a poor delivery system. He has been a very calm snake...never struck once. I have had no luck with a frozen mice, rat, or a chick. Will keep trying.
