Yesterday I caught 6 locusts, the ones with yellow and black wings that fold up into a grey brown grasshopper, and the thing can fly for 50 yards if it really wants to.

I just fed the last four to my lizards, and while one of them was eating one, a maggot emerged. I don't know from what oriface, but there was this maggot wriggling on the sand floor. Sunbeam resolved the problem by chomping it down.

Anyone ever see maggots coming out of a Locust? Seems odd, would a fly be able to implant an egg inside a grasshopper? Or did the grasshopper eat a fly egg whole and not digest it?

I know that some wasp can do this...if your collared eat it up, it might be difficult to identify the larvae ! lol

Lot of grasshoppers and locusts will carry worms inside their bodies. I remember from a genetics class in college, we all had to do some work with large grasshoppers. Nearly ever one had some type of worms come out of the bodies. I doubt they will be transmitted to your lizard. I think most of those types of worms are pretty host-specific.

that is really really gross, ill never look at a grasshopper the same again...

the experiment we did in genetics involved dissecting the testes and observing cellular division under the microscope. cool, eh? Poor guys LOL
