A garter that has killed:

Oxyrhopus Jan 24, 2007 07:20 PM

One of my new acquisitions that I wanted to post for interest.

This is chinese garter snake. It looks very similiar in body and structure to north american and other so called garter snakes, but its red color is a warning. Despite it does not have forward fangs and perhaps tiny if any rear fangs, this species has a neurotoxin that has killed people. It's a Rhabdophis species.

Nice snake! I had one from Korea...although when I found out what kind it was, the name I found was red necked keelback.... Sweet snakes too!!! I would love a few more, but Utah doesn't allow them....=(
