Either try a different wattage bulb (lower) or move the light a little further away.

You can raise your light further away from the cage. What size is your tank? Smaller ones are harder to keep a temp gradient.

When they are young some won't eat the greens. It is important to keep on offering them on a daily basis though. Some do take to them they just have to realize that it is food. When babies the majority of the diet is live foods to meet their bodies requirment for maximum growth. As they get older most of the diet will change over to greens. As long as he is eating his crickets and you are able to get him to drink water by misting he should be ok. Is he eating the crickets? Any more signs of the twiching in his legs?

Has he gone to the bathroom since he ate those crickets? If he hasn't pooped yet for you I think a nice warm to the touch bath would help him. Some times new dragons go through a tough time for the first week or so. They are stressed cause of the new surroundings and take some time to settle in. Get the temps correct for him. If he hasn't pooped in a few days since he ate those crickets give him a warm bath, this will help him go. Always dust 1 feeding a day with calcium for him, this is very important for young fast growing dragons. Last thing I would suggest if he is new to you and seems a bit stressed would be to cover the sides of the tank. I know 1 of my babies will not eat if I watch him. I leave the room and he eats like crazy. One last thing make sure all food is no bigger then the space between the eyes.

Sure, yeah red/orange food really do get their interest. Squash, sweet potatoes, carrots, very little amount of red peppers are all good to cut up small and add to the greens once in a while. Also some pellet food is red in color this would also be good to soak in water and put on the salad.

As a baby I would dust the crickets. Most babies eat these more readily then they would the salad. The crickets or live foods are high in phosphorus and the calcium powder balances out that part of the diet. Put it on whatever he eats the most of. It is important.

The bath for the dragon should be slightly warm to your touch, not hot but look warm. Soak him in this and lightly rub the tummy. This works like a charm on some dragons.

The symptoms of the twitching legs most likely is either he is eating to much prey and not digesting it, or eating to large of prey. This also can be caused by low calcium level in the body.
This is why I'm stressing the calcium and trying to find out if he pooped. Has he pooped? If he pooped then that would rule out the impaction, and then you could try to get extra calcium in him. If the calcium doesn't work then you can rule out both of these then it is time to see a vet, cause no one here can help with meds.

this is what i do brandon to get young ones to eat vegies
first step
get good greens i like turnips collards and mustard greens and i always put some romane in there, the romane is mostly water and will help them stay hydrated chop it all up in peices about the size of m&m or skittles candy pieces. then what i do is make sure the bowel i am using is real shallow so they can get in and out of it easier and see in the food. than the kicker and this works great for me and everyone i have herd use is when you put his crickets in the tank drop them in the salad dish. he will go over and very quickly relaize that after some feedings that dish means food and he will get some greens on his cricket dives and figure out they like them. silk worms work best for this but you have to buy to many silk worms for only having one dragon.

now for the pooping and eating problem you have to get his basking temp perfect or it will cause him stress and he won;t be able to digest his food properly and have that feeling of jeez i ate to much and i need some alkaseltzer ect. so what you need to do is go to home depot and try a 30 watt spot bulb not the halogen kind and that should get you close. also i recomend flat rocks as a oposed to trees for basking seems to heat up more evenly

pooping porblem put him in a warm bath ( about 90-95°F is where iput mine) with water up to his shoulders not anydeeper. than what i do is get me a misting bottle of real hot water (it will be real cool in mist form) and spary spray spray if he doesn't go with that you need to take him to the vet.

once he goes maybe limit the number of crickets to 5 or 10 a day until he is eating them up real strong in about 10 min. and remove any he does not eat.

once he is eating strong and gobbling them all up in a few min kee adding more i have a guy here who i am trying to fill up today and he is already on his 7th feeding and has ate 110 crickets i am going to stop him at 110 1/4 inch crickets that just can't be good for him. now granted these crickets are a spec to small for him he is about 10 icnhes long and realy should be eating 1/2 inch crickets but i have other hathclings that need the 1/4 inchers so i just feed them all the same size.
point is once they start eating they are hogs

hope this helps any other question just ask

iput him in the bath and he was drinking the water. but i am misting 3 times a day. i did not want you to think im not misting him. and he pooped

BeginnersBasics Aug 10, 2003 02:12 PM

Most of them always seem to dunk their heads and take a nice looooong drink. Glad he pooped, a warm bath always seems to stimulate them

Woohoo Ok great. get his tank temps stable. Let him warm up and try feeding small calcium dusted crickets. I hope it was one of these things that was causing the twitching, cause these are pretty simple to correct. Good Luck.
