Fluval 404 problems & tank gluingTechniq

brokermonkey Jan 24, 2007 09:00 PM

Ok, so i've been having problems...if someone lives in the southern california/Pomona area...i wouldnt even mind paying for some help!!

anyway: i have a fluval 404, it was working fine till one day it made a weird sound, i unplugged it, and water started coming out of the sides (where the top and bottom connect)....so i emptied it and i went to try to put it together again, and it wont shut. it's really weird, it wont completely seal. any advice?

So i got a 100 gallon tank, the owner told me to glue the seams at the bottom because it had a REALLY SLOW leak. so i get the glue package, read to take off all the old glue, did it, and i tried to re-glue the tank...and i dont think i'm doing it right. i still havent tested it. i asked friends for help, but none of them know anything about this.

Thanks for the help!

Hard to say whats wrong with the filter. There should be a rubber seal around the edge where the two parts (top/bottom) connect most likely, see if thats broken.

With the tank... Glue as in 100% silicone right? That is what you will want to use. First you need to find out where the leak is. Theres plenty of websites intructing you on how to reseal an aquarium. Just do a search on it and you should get the idea.

Make sure all of the chambers are seated correctly on top of each other and are not overfilled. If you still can't close it, make sure you're putting the top on the right way (I think the impellar should match up with the circle on the topmost chamber). I'm not sure what else would prevent you from closing it.

If the filter keeps making noises (and occasionally has bubbles come out of the output), then there's a leak somewhere. I've had leaks from the tubing and the motor seal ring. If the ring is the problem, you definately want to get a new one (drying up 30 gallons of turtle water from your living room floor is not fun, trust me).

If you're not sure where to get parts, you can try BigAlsOnline.
