I bought some heat tape, cut out the origional thermostat ( I want it to be on at above freezing temps) and wired in a dimmer switch so I could set the temp of the tape.
I got nadda.
I know I wired it right so I figured that I may have bought a faulty switch. I got a new dimmer and re-did it. Still no heat and I think I may have caused a short/overload. I started the dimmer at the lowest power setting and slowly raised the dial in increments over several hours. No heat. But I did feel a "jump" inside the dimmer (number 2) as I raised the power the last time. I unpluged it right away and have not had it back on since.
I had not even hit the highest levle that the dimmer goes to.
What am I doing wrong?
Am I incompetent, or just unlucky enough to buy two bad dimmers in a row?
Please advise.
