Hunger strike?

AndrewFromSoCal Jan 25, 2007 12:48 PM

So, day 3 without food. I give him food every night, but of course, the little guy just won't eat it. He is active, temps are between 80 and 95, nothing new has been entered into his environment, and he's housed on slate, with paper towel substrates.

Any ideas?

Old enough to breed? Could be that time of year! My leo does it occasionally will go about 2 weeks with out eating and then boom will mow everything!

I agree, I've seen the same thing with alot of my adults. Mostly the males and any that have good weight on them.

I don't know about mating, he's a male. He's about 4-5 months old now.

I tried crickets, supers, and meal worms..guess i'll have to try the wax worms. His tail hasn't gone down at all, and every night when I come home he's sitting out in the middle of his cage with his eyes half closed, but where he is is 86 degrees (middle of the cage, not warm side). NO ideas, it's making me sad.

Sorry to hear that. Have you tried any wax worms? Mine didn't want to eat for a couple days, tried some wax worms and they've been eating like piggies ever since. Also, maybe shedding? Anyways, good luck.

Could be shedding, he would be all white though, you also don't want to make waxworms their staple it's not healthy. If he doesn't drop anyweight and he is very healthy then i wouldn't be too concerned it's normal for leos to go a few days with out food, especially because they are not technically in the wild fed everyday. Alot of people say it's best to feed them every otherday that way they eat everything all the time and then there is no wasted food and they seem to be starving for it like a wile instinct thing. Not sure how good that is, i do feed mine everyday!
