Meet Lisa.. my new girl

xelda Aug 10, 2003 01:26 PM

I'm so excited, because I just bought my first morph! She's a high yellow with gorgeous lavender hues and a very nice temperament. I paid $50 for her. (Does that seem ok? This is the first time I've ever had to pay a pet. lol)

High yellows don't usually have spots on there back legs. I may be wrong. But yours has spots on it's back legs.

spots on the legs is ok. when hatchlings, if they dont have the black markings on the legs, then some people will tellyou its a high yellow. the end result is all that matters. i would consider that a high yellow, compared to many things other people consider high yellows.

And the breeder said she might be gravid although it didn't look like it to me.

she looks way too small to be bred, unless thats a big container she's in.
she looks great by the way!

This was her first breeding season, and apparently she's already had some clutches. He showed me a couple hatchlings that were hers.

I just took a closer look in some better lighting, and it does look like she is gravid. I'm worried now. I just weighed her and she is only 35 grams.

35 grams might be ok. 40 grams is OK, but still a little bit small. maybe she was over 40 and lost weight from the clutches???

It's possible. She's only slightly smaller than my other female, who didn't have any problems passing her eggs.

Either way, I'm going to give her a break from breeding.

Very pretty whatever you call her, I personlly call my gecko like that a yellow-normal, but whatever.

That one has a very nice aberrant pattern too. $50 seems a fair price as long as she is healthy, I worry though that the seller said she cou;d be gravid...from the look of those bands she is way to young to be bred.

xelda Aug 10, 2003 04:52 PM

I thought she was kind of small too, but the breeder said she was a year and a half old.

You'll have to watch her though. Sometimes it takes only one mating and she can throw eggs all season.. or thats what I've read from a few different sources. I'm not sure how long sperm retention is possible in leopard geckos.. but I don't think its unheard of either.

In my opinion shes a high yellow, I like her pattern too, it looks like shes got a yellow stripe down her back. Unfortunately most lose those lavender bars, my leo just finished sheddding and where she used to have lavender is now orange, with a little bit left but it'll probably go away after her next shed. anyway, good luck,
mac

Oh, darn! Well, even if she loses her purple, it's still refreshing to have a new personality in my room.

She looks kinda skinny for being gravid. Try giving her some extra mealworms and DEFIANTLY extra calcium!!! But she is very pretty.
