Is anyone feeding their Uros insects on a consistent basis? I am curious as I thought they could subsist on a purely vegetarian diet. Do you guys feed your uros insects and how often??

I have had malis for over 8 years and have never fed them insects. They get a wide variety of greens, veggies and some fruit...and once in a while dry lentils.
I never feed insects to my uros. They get their protein from occasional lentils, crushed beans, and alfalfa.

However, I am definitely getting conflicting opinions based on my above replies/posts to LeoLady420 and her responses. I also read in an older Reptiles Magazine Annual that they occasionally take insects as well. I may offer a few since she is new and needs some weight. Thanks for the replies.
We feed our guys no bugs, ever, from hatchlings to old age.
The BEST diet for uros is a diet of high quality mixed greens of many varieties, period. Once you know they are healthy, eating well and acclimated, you can add a dish of the dry mix for them to munch on. I'm sure in the wild that uros eat many different things, including insects to a degree, but, they are best suited for greens, as insects and sugars (lots of fruit) are harder for them to digest. Because I have crickets for other animals, I throw in a few crickets about 3 times a month to the my two uros that will eat them. Most of mine just ignore crickets.
For your situation, you most likely have a newly imported wc animal. Geyris are notorious for being very difficult to acclimate, and their mortality rate is high. Many come in dehydrated and parasitized. I would take a fecal in to your vet to make sure that is not an issue with yours. In the event they are dehydrated, feeding them insects and dry mix is not recommneded, as that perpetuates the problem. Get them to eat a quality diet of greens before adding anything else. I wish you the best with your new pet. This forum is an excellent resource for information, with many contributors having been on here for years, so follow their advice, you will be glad you did.
