LeoLady420 Jan 26, 2007 10:59 AM

Here is my ornate female. Who actually is not doing that well, and we just can't figure out what her problem is, temps are exact, she has everything that she needs, she just stopped eating right. I actually like when i got her that there may have been something wrong. So i am trying to give her gatorade for electroltyes and She has been pooping and eating a little better, but not like she is supposed to be!

As always, the question looms, WC or CB??

I believe CB!

Dehydration could be a cause of a lack of interest in food. Also, try leaving the animal alone for a while until it is eating well. I had a similar problem with my acanthurus monitors and found out that they weren't eating well mainly because I went in and toyed around with the setup too often (trying soil mixes probably once every two weeks). Anyway, good luck.

Well, probably not much to worry over. They get quirky sometimes. Subtle things can bring on "declines" & subtle things can bring them back.
We housed together a couple females we hatched in '05 until they began to spar. We separated them. One did just fine while the other, for months, refused to come out & bask or feed. Things looked pretty terminal. We had an extremely skiddish male(wc) (the green one from Daytona, Doug, should you be reading). Paired them up & both are now doing fantastic. Each one seemed to energize the other into activity.
I'm not saying that pairing animals is the answer. I'm just suggesting that sometimes the answer is right under our noses.
Your female looks pretty healthy. However, if she's wc, I'd suggest a vet visit. I made the mistake of buying 2 beautiful ornate babies (wc) & after 6 weeks of normal behavior & feeding habits, they crashed almost overnight & nothing saved them.
Best of luck with your new ornate! They simply are the best, IMHP.

I am pretty sure she is captive bred. I have had her for about 3-4 months and i don't really ever fool with her at all. She is very dehdrated and i have problems with her eating. I have tried getting her to drink gatorade...refuses will drink water on occasions, i also get her to eat greens if i pull her out of the cage, maybe only like a leaf or two and somedays she will just spit it out like a baby who doesn't like there food. So we ahve been monitoring her closley and working with the guy who sold us her, and well just have to see what happens, some days are better then others. Thanks for the comments!!

Lindsay, Doug, can yall chime in on this one?

I wish you were getting a better response. That not happening, I can only say the Gatorade attempt was probably doomed from the start. What football players love doesn't necessarily appeal to reptiles.
#1: offer supplemented romaine to rehydrate.
#2: once it accepts the supplemented romaine, offer more varieties of greens, including a wide variety seed bowl.
#3: flowers & clovers drive them crazy! (make sure they're safe!)
#4: keep sugars & bugs last on the menu. Or, not at all.
Just my thoughts for these few minutes.
Best of lucks!
D&L.

Well she won't take any greens sometimes and other days she will. I have 19 herps so i just make a huge bag of greens and a bag of veggies. Greens are....Collard, kale, endive, escarole, spinach, bok choy.
Veggies...butternut squash, acornsquash, zuchinni, strawberries, cucumbers, broccli, green peppers, carrotts, and the uros get lentils.

She drinks water everyday and she will be active when out of the tank. I am trying organic baby food to see if that helps. She will not eat any insects refuses them all, all the time. Thanks i appreciate the help. Thanks

Not to worry, I'm fairly sure. We've got guys that have been with us for many years. Sometimes they eat, sometimes they don't. It's not at all unusual to come home & find their greens bowls untouched ( or so you think! ). The simple fact is, "THEY'RE DESERT ANIMALS!!!!!!!!" Don't expect to see them gobbling large amounts of anything, though sometimes they do. They're going to pick & peck & that's what's right & good for them. New Uro owners need to know that feeding your kat or dog vs feeding your Uro are two hugely different agendas. If puppy goes off feed for a day or so, cause for concern. If lizard does so, more than likely just normal behavior.
Best Regards,
A.
