I am new to these great snakes and I have only one (for now). My expertise is in Carpets so I hope I’m not asking an obvious question. My question is about hybrids. Can Python curtus (black bloods), Python breitensteini (borneos), and Python brongersmai (red, yellow, brown bloods) produce viable offspring when mixed? I haven’t seen any mixes. My reference is with carpets and such talk sparks up some very lively debate over purity and my question is not meant to do that, it’s just to find out if it is commonly done and if it is possible. For you all that know carpets, you see Diamond/Jungles and Coastal/Jungles all the time. I haven’t seen the same thing is these big guys.

As a side note, I have seen the Ball/ Black Bloods from Dr. Frankenstein. I’m pretty sure they are mules and am not interested in that kind of breeding.

The black blood and borneo blood crosses that have been done with balls are in fact not mules if I remember right as there are F2 animals out there produced last year.

On the other note, yes blacks, reds, borneos, they can infact be bred together and crossed, and there are crossed animals out there. I myself usually don't see too many nice looking crosses of them though when I do run across them for sale and such, but there are some very nice crossed animals out there too.

I prefer non crosses so far with all the bloods in general (I do like the ball hybrid though but Im excluding that right now). I need to work on confirming what some exactly are here, getting up close though with those two isn't always the easiest thing lol.

I didn’t know that F2s were around. Do you know if the F2s were the result of two F1s, or were they the result of an F1 and a Ball or a Blood? I guess to be a F2 you would have to have two F1s.

The only Blood/ Ball crosses I have seen were at Dr. F’s site. I can’t find him anymore. They varied quite a bit. I wonder if the F2s are a little more homogenized?

Who is crossing them now? Do they have a site?

-Thanks for the info!

PS: What would the temperament be like? I guess you would get a snake that bites and doesn’t eat

I am pretty sure Roussis Reptiles has produced borneo/ball (superballs) from a superball to a super ball.Check out his site it is on the collection page.

WRT crossing the different blood species shouldn't be that big of a deal. Unless I'm mstaken, they were considered the same species until recently. Many major breeders will breed them separate but they are very closely related.

This is my personal experience...Yes they produce viable offspring. Most people 'into' bloods don't want them...I know recently some natural curtus/brongersmai hybrids came into the country and at least one was literally given away.

If there is even a market for them, it's very small, and the few people who end up with animals that are later found to be crosses, usually get rid of them. There are people doing the morph thing with hybrids, but otherwise they are frowned on. Hybrids are cool if they make something different or better than the original species. Blood/Borneo/Black hybrids are usually never as good looking as the originals.
